Official Singles Chart Discussion: Week of 29 May 2020 - 04 June 2020 RADIO Locale
The biggest story of the week is Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande teaming up to make “Rain on Me”, which debuts at number one. This is Lady Gaga’s first number one song since “Shallow” in 2018, and her sixth overall. This is also Ariana Grande’s sixth number one song overall, and her first since “Break Up with Your Girlfriend I’m Bored” in 2019. This is certainly good timing for the song, as its number one debut comes on the same day of Lady Gaga’s release of her new album, “Chromatica.”
There are no other songs making their first entry to the top ten, but Topic and A7S’ “Breaking Me” rises four spots to number 11. This is a song mentioned on the previous discussion piece as one with high chart potential.
On the lower end of the chart, there some new entries. Most notably, Sia’s “Together” debuts at number 96, while “Power” by Ellie Goulding debuts at number 86.
Making a big gain this week is Harry Styles’ “Watermelon Sugar”, up 14 spots to number 21 on its 16th week on the chart. Another gain of note is The 1975’s “If You’re Too Shy (Let Me Know),” which is up 19 spots to number 33 on its fifth week.
However, there are some songs that have left the top 40. These include Dua Lipa’s “Physical,” down ten spots to number 41; Lil Mosey’s “Blueberry Faygo,” down six spots to number 42; and Katy Perry’s “Daisies,” down fifteen spots to number 52 after debuting at number 37 last week.
