Official Singles Chart Discussion--Week of 08 May
The Official Singles Chart has been updated for the week of 08 May 2020. Let’s take a look at some notable chart movements.
Drake’s “Tootsie Slide” takes the top spot on this week’s chart, rising three spots from the previous week. There are six new songs in the top ten this week, including huge gains posted by Megan Thee Stallion’s “Savage”, up 19 spots to numbers three, and DaBaby and Roddy Ricch’s collaboration “Rockstar,” up 21 spots to number six. Two songs not previously on the chart debuted in the top ten; “Dinner Guest” by AJ Tracey and Mostack debuts at number eight, while Drake and Giveon’s “Chicago Freestyle” debuts at number ten. Last week’s number one song, “Times Like These”, falls to number nine.
Not so great news this week for Dua Lipa’s “Physical”, down 19 spots to number 26, as well as her song “Don’t Start Now”, down 20 spots to number 29. Warner Records will not likely continue to push “Break My Heart”, which is on the verge of cracking the top ten. Also not promising is The 1975’s new single “If You’re Too Shy (Let Me Know),” which falls 23 spots to number 37 in its second week.
Keep a close watch on “If The World Was Ending” by JP Saxe and Julia Michaels. On its sixth week on the chart, it hits a new peak of number 16, up nine spots. Sam Fischer’s “This City” is also showing great potential, rising seven spots to its new peak of number 24. With so many songs rising double digits this week, who knows what surprises next week could hold.
